A common argument that pro-lifers like to throw out abortion is always wrong, generally based on abortion is murder. That will be the topic of another blog. This blog will focus on the idea that if abortion is always wrong then the opposite must be right. So, let’s get into just what the opposite is.

 One of the first ones is death which is what happens when some women are not allowed an abortion.  Certain conditions can lead to death for a pregnant woman. The first we will discuss is atopic pregnancies. These happens approximately 2% (Creinin, 2022) and per medical knowledge this is not something women can carry without a threat to their life and despite propaganda it cannot be implanted somewhere else (The American college of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2024).

A mother can miscarry, and by being forced to carry dead flesh inside of her body she could get sepsis, which will lead to severe blood poisoning and death. Other conditions, such as cancer, cannot be treated properly if a woman is pregnant because of the fetus she is forced to carry. By not being treated, the cancer or other disease could kill them. It is important to realize that with all our medical knowledge, we can generally tell when something could or is going wrong. So regardless of the medical condition, to have a female carry till she dies is a way of murdering her with a fetus.

Secondly, we can move on to child abuse. Minors, otherwise known as children, have been known to be pregnant as young as 5 years old. Pregnancy causes multiple changes to a women’s body, mentally and physically. Let’s just imagine for a moment your sweet 11-year-old screaming as something uses her young, underdeveloped body and gives her physical issues and mental changes that no 11 years should have to go through.

To put that in more medical terms, imagine a child suffering through conditions such as gestational diabetes, severe vomiting, high blood pressure, preclampsia, and infections (NIH, 2024). Now imagine all that for a child along with a condition called fistula, a condition which is deadly and can make subsequent pregnancies dangerous. This is something that can occur from prolonged labor which happens when a fetus is obstructed, sometimes from a smaller pelvis. One of the best ways to delay fistula is to delay pregnancy till she is more developed (Eck, T.V., 2021).

A third thing that is therefore right if abortion is wrong is rape. A victim doesn’t consent and, in the age where birth control is demonized, girls have one less thing to avoid the trauma of a pregnancy along with the hell they have already gone through. The rape itself will have mental and physical repercussions for the victims entire life, not to mention the shame, mockery, and disregard from other human beings.

Now add on to that a person who uses that rape to their advantage to supposedly save a fetus and it seems like the rape is something that a prolifer approves of. After all, it gives them something they want, regardless of the age of the victim. Ah yes, I hear the cries of “what did the fetus do, I would adopt a rape baby, its innocent, etc”. Yet the fact still stands that the fetus would not exist except for a vile act against humanity and unfortunately, it exists inside of the uterus of another human being.

When a fetus is conceived through rape, ignoring that for whatever reason, is to decide that the rape is inconsequential.  This disregard is evident in the fact that very few laws in the country give an exception for age or rape.

In conclusion, many or some people like to say that abortion is always the wrong choice. If that is the case, then these people are accepting the opposite is right. That means that death, which is one side effect, is acceptable and to an extent murder. At this point, our medical knowledge is enough to know when a pregnancy is starting to go south. To knowingly have someone carry a fetus to the end, ultimately is using the fetus as a weapon against women and girls.

Secondly, child abuse is also alright to pro-lifers as children of all ages can be impregnated through various means. I think enough people have seen just how painful and life changing a pregnancy can be. Now imagine putting a 10-year-old through that. The last thing that pro-lifers are accepting if abortion is wrong is rape.

By silencing a victim who will bear the sacrifice and pain of both the rape and a forced pregnancy so that you can save a fetus, it shows that prolifers accept the end justifies the means.
